Royal’s double-points promo leaves casino offers on the dock

Just saw a current item over on Royal Caribbean Blog from this past week: Royal brought back a double Crown & Anchor points promo for new bookings made July 21-31, but casino offers are specifically excluded. That caught my eye because it’s one more reminder that the loyalty buckets stay separate, even when they’re aimed at the same passenger. Back in the old days the lines were simpler: you played, you sailed, and the bean counters figured it out behind the curtain. Now we’ve got cruise loyalty on one side, casino marketing on the other, and sometimes they nod politely without shaking hands. I’m curious how folks here look at this. If you’ve got a casino offer in hand, would double cruise points ever be enough to make you book outside the casino channel, or is that a non-starter?

For us, that’s usually a non-starter. Gene and I learned to treat the cruise side and casino side like two different coupon drawers. Sometimes one has the better deal, sometimes the other does, but I don’t assume they’ll stack or play nice together. Double loyalty points sound nice if you’re already close to a tier you care about, but I wouldn’t give up a solid casino offer just for that. I always price both paths and read the fine print twice. Has anyone actually booked the regular promo and come out happier than taking the casino route?

That exclusion doesn’t surprise me. Royal usually treats Crown & Anchor promos and Club Royale offers as separate inventory, and the booking path matters. One practical thing to check: if someone is eyeing double cruise points for status, look at whether the casino offer is on a sailing you can repriced or if it has to be a fresh booking through the casino side. Those deadlines and “new booking only” rules are where people get tripped up. I’d also compare total out-of-pocket after taxes, port fees, and any casino admin fee. Sometimes the headline offer is not the real comparison. Anyone here ever asked Club Royale to quote the same sailing against the public promo just to see both numbers side by side?
