Carnival’s new rewards milestones have me rethinking cruise length

Just saw a genuinely current item in Cruise Industry News from mid-June: Carnival says its new Carnival Rewards milestone recognition will be based on days sailed, not just number of cruises. They also mentioned new Sail & Sign card designs tied to the rollout. What caught my eye is the days-sailed piece. For folks here who mix casino sailings with regular bookings, that seems like a meaningful shift in how people may look at a 3-4 night run versus stretching to a longer itinerary. Not because anything is guaranteed on the casino side, obviously, but because loyalty math can change how we stack trips. My question for the group: does a days-based program make you more likely to book longer sailings, or do you still prefer more frequent short ones if the casino offers line up?

For me it definitely makes the 6-8 night stuff look better. I still like a quick 3-4 nighter out of Miami when the timing works, but short runs always feel over too fast, especially if I want casino time and actual deck time. A days-sailed setup makes the longer trip feel a little more worth it on the loyalty side too. The one thing that would still keep me booking shorter cruises is if they stack better with my schedule and price out easier. I’m curious how many people will start doing fewer but longer sailings versus keeping the weekend casino hops in the mix.

I can see it nudging us toward longer runs, but probably not all the way. Out of New Orleans, those 7-day sailings already fit our rhythm better because you get a real first night, a real sea day, and don’t feel like you’re racing from muster to the casino and back to debark. Denise likes having time to wander, and I like not feeling like I just sat down at three-card before it’s time to pack. That said, I still think short sailings keep a place for testing a ship or grabbing an easy getaway. Curious whether Carnival will make the milestone tracking easy to see in the app or online.

I’d bet it changes behavior at the margins more than all at once. Back in the old days, lines loved counting “cruises” because a fellow doing three quick milk runs looked mighty loyal on paper. Days sailed is a little harder to game and probably a fairer yardstick for the non-casino side. For me, it makes those oddball 5-6 nighters more interesting than before. Long enough to settle in, short enough not to eat the whole month. I’m more curious whether Carnival will show lifetime days clearly, or if we’ll all be keeping our own tally on cocktail napkins again.
